Consider the environment when remodeling your landscape

Consider the environment when remodeling your landscape When it comes to remodeling your landscape environment, it is important to consider the overall environment as well as your little slice of it.  Some methods of landscaping can be harmful to the environment, while others will actually help to sustain a healthy environment for the community and the world.

Choosing the best "green" technology when designing your landscape is a great way to provide yourself with both a great looking yard and a feeling of satisfaction.

It is important to plan carefully for the green makeover of your landscape, and to make sure you gather all the tools and supplies you will need for such a transformation.

Going green can provide a number of important benefits, including increased convenience, fewer problems with pest and disease, and increased beauty and efficiency in the landscape.

A properly planned and designed green landscape will also require far less ongoing maintenance than a traditional one, an important benefit for busy working folks.

Design your landscape properly

When designing such an ecologically friendly environment, it is important to consider a number of factors.  The properly designed landscape should perform the following functions:

  • Help to conserve water, through the use of water conserving techniques such as drip irrigation

  • Avoid problems with runoff and erosion

  • Use materials that are nontoxic and not harmful to the environment

  • Use materials that are recyclable, or made with recycled materials

  • Avoid the use of harmful chemicals, which can be cumbersome and dangerous to dispose of

  • Avoid the need for a great deal of ongoing maintenance.  The perfect green landscape will not be maintenance-free, but it should be easier to maintain than a traditional garden or landscape.

One simple tip

One simple way to go green is to use materials like landscaping fabric to help inhibit and control the growth of weeds in the garden, along decks, near walkways and around patios.

This type of material will be more time consuming to install up front, but it will end up saving countless hours spent weeding and repairing other problems with the landscape. And best of all this type of natural solution will help to eliminate the need for toxic weed killer and other potentially harmful chemicals.
