Solar-powered products for your garden The sun can be put to work powering many of the products you use in your garden. Solar garden lights, fountains, and irrigation pumps can all be powered by the sun. Easily installed, these solar powered garden products can be placed in virtually any sunny area of the garden, enabling you to have lighted and water features in the most remote locations.

Solar lighting

Solar lighting is the most popular solar product found in the garden. Accent lights, flood lights and area lights may all be solar powered. Some solar lights must be placed directly in the sun as they have the solar cell mounted on them.

Others may be placed in the shade with the solar cell connected by a wire and placed in the sun. Solar garden lighting provides greater flexibility than standard wired lighting because most of these products require no wiring at all. They can be moved on a whim as your lighting needs change.

Solar garden fountains

Solar garden fountains can be placed anywhere in the garden that is sunny. The sun powers the pump, creating the restful sounds of running water just about anywhere you wish. The solar garden fountain needs no expensive wiring or plumbing, so it can be set up quickly and moved easily if desired.

Solar water pumps

A solar water pump can pump water from a shallow well or pond and used to irrigate a garden, or water livestock. There are many different types of solar water pumps to fit many needs. Some can be run off a solar cell array, or alternatively, a 12 volt battery. A solar booster pump can be installed to provide additional water pressure for drip irrigation or water purification systems. Pumps can be either surface installed or submersible.

If you have a small garden pond, chances are that during sunny days the oxygen level drops to low levels, creating stress for fish and plants in the pond. A solar aerator can solve this problem, as it will run on sunny days oxygenating the water by circulating it through air stones. Floating solar fountains can also perform this function by producing a jet of streaming water which helps aerate the water in the pond.

Go solar

Solar garden products can solve many of the aesthetic and practical needs of the garden. They can supply light, sound and water to the garden. So the sun will not only grow your plants, but supply many of the other garden's needs as well.
