Lightbulb Give away things instead of trashingthem

Hi, Just wanted to say that giving away your unwanted items is a much better option than simply throwing into the trash. Increasing the life of household stuff can save energy, cost and space in landfills.

Go Green!

Welcome to the eco-wisdom forum lindausa74!

Donating is definitely the way to go. It takes just a little effort but help the environment and other people a lot. One commonly overlooked item is books - donate your old books instead of throwing them out or even recycling them:

Thumbs up One can also advertise their old stuff

There are many websites like http://www.craigslist.com, and http://www.iecycle.org where you can advertise your old and unwanted stuff for free for people to take away. There is also a yahoo group called freerecycles or something where you can post to the group.

Every little bit helps when it comes to the environment.

I agree to the suggestion. We can also save money and can still give more. My family and friends will be giving stuffs for this christmas as our tokens for all the blessings we are enjoying.

There's never a better time to find places to give away items (instead of trashing them) than the holiday season. Hopefully you all found places and ways to donate - I tried my best, but there's always room for improvement, IMO.

Donations are a great way to save on trash and help others at the same time. What most people don't think about is that donations are needed year round not only during the Christmas holiday when people feel extra giving. It great now matter what, to whom or how much you donate, just knowing it can help someone is a great feeling.

One way I have found to get rid of books and other entertainment items is to check with you local library. Some have a small group linked to the library that takes the books and resell them for a small price during a book sale to raise money to help the library. The libraries in my area do this and they accept all books including old text and reference books, tapes, cds and dvds. A good twofer and you can also claim this on you taxes.
