Default Home energy conservation?

Need help with tips to conserve energy at home. Ideally, I would love to integrate solar panels, but that is a huge investment. Anyone have any tips or tricks they would like to share?

I use "Green Power" which is basically this outlet strip/surge protector that automatically cuts off power to specific devices that normally keep using it (even when they're off).

Here's a link: http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=5016

So far it has proven to be a pretty good tool for home energy conservation!

Welcome to the eco-wisdom forum ecowizard!

I agree, being aware of phantom appliances, as EcoNoob mentioned above, is a great way to conserve.

Also, with fall and winter approaching, it can be a good time to conduct a home energy audit to help conserve energy. And check out simple ways to make your home more energy efficient for more conservation tips.

Thanks for the tips guys. Monster's "Green Power" strip is really impressive. Reminds me of that funny commercial with those kids about how leaving your phone charger plugged in still uses up energy.

Would need a couple a strips to have my whole house hooked up, but I think it would be worth it. There's so many appliances and electronics we have that use up this phantom/vampire power.

I was going to suggest unplugging your cell phone charger when it's not in use. It wastes 40% energy! I just checked out those monster "green power" headphones. The technology behind it is impressive. I'm thinking about getting a pair. Nothing drives me more nuts than wasting energy when I think something is "off".

Hello Friend,

We hope this letter finds you and your family happy and in good health. We wonder if you would mind doing us a small favor?

We are writing to announce some great news! Just recently, we obtained a dealership with an Environmental Technology manufacturer that is one of the fastest growing companies in America – Ecoquest International. For over 23 years they have provided compact state of the art environmental treatment systems for commercial, industrial and residential applications.

The primary technology we are learning to use is so advanced that the Pentagon used it after 9/11, the Red Cross uses it after wildfires, the American Lung Association recently established a partnership and it is being used to in the Ground Zero museum in NYC. It is recognized by the NASA affiliate Space Foundation as the only air purification system in the world “Certified for Space”. Although not a medical device, allergy, asthma and sinus sufferers rave about the relief they experience from breathing the clean air it produces. We are using this technology in our own home and (am/are) amazed at the difference in (my/our) air quality.

In addition to air technology, we are learning about an Energy Management System that has been utilized by large corporations for over 15 years. EcoQuest has tailored it for the residential level so homeowners can enjoy the same benefits those large companies have. Namely the ability to recycle wasted electricity which saves an average of 8-25% a month on the bill, whole home surge protection and a way to clean the power so all appliances and electronics operate better and most importantly, have a much longer life span.

As for the small favor… We would appreciate your help in getting our new business launched. If you run across someone that has problems with allergies, asthma, sinus conditions, odors, mold, or would like to learn how to get their money’s worth from their electric utility, would you please think of us by giving them our phone number or website address as listed below? I would also like to have you help me with some training. Would you consider allowing me to place our technology in your home for a few days to practice our evaluation process?

If you’ll help us in announcing our business, we’ll surely appreciate it and thank you for your kindness. We look forward to serving the community and I’ll be in touch in a few days.

Sincerely,

Yours in Success,

Default How about replacement windows?

The first step my husband and I took to live more eco-friendly was replacing our old windows. I never realized what a difference energy efficient windows could make! We are able to keep our heat and air conditioning settings lower because the air doesn't escape and no outside air gets in.

Replacement windows can get rather expensive, but we went with Infinity from Marvin windows and qualified for an energy tax credit. On top of getting the tax money, we save on our bills every month.

There is a lot of helpful information about replacement windows here: http://www.digiorgiinc.com/windows-d...nt-windows-ct/

Default Two things i did last year.

Last year to help my household save some energy and money I purchased a hot water heater blanket and a clothes hanger (although this has not been the best winter for it). I figured i would probably get my money back in a couple of years. I was surprised when we had save $17 bucks on the next electric bill. In addition, one factor did not even enter into my mind was the fact that our dryer was heated with natural gas. Not using the dryer for most of the year also saved us about $50 on the gas bill this year. I think the next item I'm going to try is the power supply mentioned earlier. Everyone in the house has a computer and a cell phone maybe this will add up quick to.
Thanks for all the good ideas.
