Three ways to protect frogs

Frog numbers have decreased at alarming rates over the past few decades. Frogs are a crucial part of our ecosystem, and may play a part that scientists have not yet discovered. Why find out the hard way? Here are three ways you can make a difference:
1. Make herpetology (the study of frogs and toads) a summer family project:
- Visit a zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
- Join FrogWatch USA and conduct a frog count in your area.
- Make an amphibian-friendly habitat in your yard.
2. Stop using chemicals on your lawn, especially Roundup and Atrazine. Frogs absorb water through their skin, which makes them more vulnerable to toxins. The chemicals you apply on your lawn eventually make their way to ponds and streams, the frogs' prime habitat.
3. Conserve water, which will not only protect amphibians but every other living species on earth, including humans.
