Recharge, reuse, recycle

Always check with your local waste management district (usually part of your county government) about which batteries are recyclable and which aren't.
Generally speaking, traditional disposable batteries are a double whammy. They tend not to be recyclable and you only get one use out of them.
Rechargeable batteries, on the other hand, have the obvious benefit of multiple uses before you can't recharge them anymore, but as an added bonus, they are also recyclable.
Also, check with your local jeweler when replacing a watch battery. Sometimes they'll accept them for recycling.
