Buy local, buy shares

Do you frequent local farmer's markets for organic produce to do your part in reducing transportation emissions? Consider buying shares in a local small farm.
Community supported agriculture (CSA) is not a new concept but has gained popularity in recent years. Buying farm shares is like buying a subscription for just-harvested food.
You pay one lump sum and then for 25-30 weeks (depending on the region) you pick up a weekly basket of produce, eggs, cheese, meat, or flowers. Every farm offers variations of the concept, but most practice organic farming.
Because of CSA, many small farms can stay financially afloat. More small farms means less big-farm pollution.
As a shareholder, you can:
- Choose a smaller or greater share, depending on your needs
- Volunteer for or visit the farm, in most cases
- Expose your children to healthy new foods and financial concepts
