Make your garden chemical-free

With a little bit of forward thinking and effort, your garden can be a completely chemical-free environment.

These quick tips can help you to greatly reduce the need for pesticides and other chemicals to keep your garden healthy and functioning:

  • Ask local gardeners about recommendations for native plants that may be more resistant to disease, pests etc.

  • Use organic compost to help improve overall soil quality and thus increase your garden's natural strength against disease and pests.

  • Consider using natural pest control products, many of which can be made with common household items.

  • Make use of traps, barriers and other physical guards to keep away pests and avoid excessive pesticide use.

  • Plant mint around the perimeter of your garden to keep our mice and othe small pests. This strong-smelling plant is a great natural boundary.

  • Consider buying ladybugs to help control plant-eating insects.
