What would you do without trash service?

Most of us are accustomed to the normality of dragging a wheeled trash barrel to the curb once a week. It seems like a chore, but it should be considered a luxury.
If you could travel through time to view a history of trash removal, you might witness medieval housewives throwing slop from their window to the streets below for wild dogs and pigs to forage.
You might see American colonists selling their cloth scraps and rags to merchants, which would then be processed into parchment for printing. Venture into any 19th century town and you would find someone in the process of dumping trash in the outhouse hole.
While our ancestors struggled with the problems of removing waste, history reveals they didn't have to deal with uber-packaging, and they were far more creative in repurposing goods before resorting to dumping or burning.
Nobody wants to return to life without organized trash service, when public waste in the streets invited rats, roaches, disease, and a horrible stench. But if your trash service came to a sudden halt tomorrow, what kind of trouble would your wasteful habits cause? What lifestyle changes might you make?
