Why choose a metal roof?

It won't burn, rot, or mold, and no insect can chew it. A metal roof is considered a green product because of its longevity, recycled content, and ability to reflect heat away from the home.
The best suppliers offer 50 year warranties, which they would only do if they were certain of their product lasting even longer. This is the metal roof's best green quality.
Metal roofs coated with light-reflecting treatments are competitive with other energy-efficient roofing materials.
Other metal roof benefits are not as apparent. Some gardening experts say runoff from asphalt roofs should not be used on produce plants, but rainwater caught from a metal roof is safe to use for all areas of your garden.
Strictly speaking, metal roofs are not wholly environmentally friendly. They are not a sustainable product (like clay tile), and they use energy and generate pollution in production.
However, roofing choices are often six of this and a half dozen of the other. For instance, a metal roof is lighter than clay tile, needing fewer supports to hold it up.
A metal roof may not suit every homeowner's needs, but it's a strong contender for a green roof choice.
